NATIONAL GREEN HYDROGEN MISSION

Questions :

Will the Minister of New and Renewable Energy be pleased to state:

  • the number of projects being implemented in the country including Haryana under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM);
  • the time by which these will be completed;
  • the number of youths getting employment under this mission; and
  • whether Government is considering to implement the mission on PPP model in the ongoing projects under the NGHM?
ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND POWER (SHRI R.K. SINGH)

  • to (d) On 4th January 2023, the Union Cabinet approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an outlay of ₹ 19,744 crore. The overarching objective of the Mission is to make India the Global Hub for production, usage and export of Green Hydrogen and its The following components have been announced as part of the Mission:

 

  1. Facilitating demand creation through exports and domestic utilization;
  2. Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, which includes incentives for manufacturing of electrolysers and production of green hydrogen;
  • Pilot Projects for steel, mobility, shipping, decentralized energy applications, hydrogen production from biomass, hydrogen storage, etc.;
  1. Development of Green Hydrogen Hubs;
  2. Support for infrastructure development;
  3. Establishing a robust framework of regulations and standards;
  • Research & Development programme including through a public-private partnership framework for R&D.
  • Skill development programme; and
  1. Public awareness and outreach

The expected outcomes of the Mission, by 2030, are as follows:

 

  1. India’s Green Hydrogen production capacity is likely to reach 5 MMT per annum,
  2. This is likely to leverage over ₹8 lakh crore in total investments in creating the Green Hydrogen ecosystem and create over 6 lakh jobs, and
  • Nearly 50 MMT per annum of CO2 emissions are expected to be averted as a result of the various Green Hydrogen initiatives under the Mission.
