CONTINUOUS CONSTRUCTION ON NH- 44 BETWEEN DELHI-AMBALA
Questions :
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:
- the reasons for continuous construction work on Delhi-Ambala highway despite it being a part of the country’s longest National Highway-44;
- the number of road accidents occurred and the citizens died due to the continuous construction work on this National Highway between Delhi and Ambala during the last three years, the year-wise details thereof;
- the efforts being made by Government to complete this work between Delhi and Ambala at the earliest, details thereof; and
- by when this work is likely to be completed?

- Mukarba Chowk to Panipat section of NH-44: The work of 8-laning project from Mukarba Chowk
to Panipat section of NH-44 commenced on 27.10.2016 with a construction period of 910 days. But the work was abandoned by the Concessionaire. Thereafter, on the request of lead bankers, harmonious substitution agreement has been signed on 08.06.2020 for completion of the balance work of the project stretch. The main reasons for delay in construction activities at site were COVID-19, Farmer’s Agitation and ban on
construction activities by the Hon’ble National Green Tribunal.
Panipat-Ambala section of NH-44: The work of 4-laning of this section is already completed. Some additional works have been taken up on this section as follows:
- Vehicular Underpass (VUP) at km 600: The work was taken up in reference to VIP reference of Sh. Anil Vij, Hon’ble Home & Health Minister, State Government of Haryana.
- Re-Construction of Major Bridge at km 100 on LHS: The work was taken up as the existing bridge was in dilapidated condition due to very old construction.
- Construction of Major Bridge at km 000: The work was taken up to improve the geometry.
- No such accident or fatalities cases reported on account of continuous construction works. All safety measures have been provided as per IRC guidelines in the construction zone by the concessionaire of the
- The respective concessionaire/contractor are executing the work at site on full swing for early completion of work.
- Mukarba Chowk to Panipat section of NH-44: The 8-laning work on this stretch is targeted to complete by 31st March 2023.
Panipat-Ambala section of NH-44:
- Vehicular Underpass (VUP) at km 600: The targeted date of completion of the work is 31.03.2023.
- Re-Construction of Major Bridge at km 100 on LHS: The targeted date of completion of the work is 20.11.2023.
- Construction of Major Bridge at km 115: The targeted date of completion of the work is 07.2024.
