‘DEVELOPMENT OF COLD CHAIN CAPACITY’

Questions :

Will the Minister of FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES be pleased to state :

  • whether any plan is under the consideration of Government to develop cold chain capacity based on present and future requirements;
  • if so, the details thereof;
  • whether any steps have been taken by Government to increase the cold chain capacity in Haryana during the last five years;
  • if so, the details thereof;
  • whether any scheme to train youth to operate the cold chain system is being implemented by Government; and
  • if so, the number of youth who have received training during the last three years, state-wise details thereof?

 

ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (SHRI PRAHLAD SINGH PATEL)

  • & (b): The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is implementing a scheme namely “Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure (CCI)” since 2008 for supporting development of cold chain infrastructure in the This is presently a sub-scheme of ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY)’ and a demand-driven scheme wherein project proposals are invited from interested individuals/ entities through Expression of Interest (EoI) floated from time to time by the Ministry. Approvals to the proposals received against EoI are accorded by the Ministry on merit basis amongst proposals found eligible as per eligibility and assessment criteria stipulated in the scheme guidelines. MoFPI has so far approved 376 such projects across different States/ UTs with project cost of Rs.10713.13 crores, approved grants-in-aid of Rs.2848.39 crores, processing capacity of 152.18 lakh MT/annum and preservation capacity of 31.51 Lakh MT/annum.

(c) & (d): Out of the 376 approved projects, 19 are located in Haryana having project cost of Rs.536.40 crores, approved grants-in-aid of Rs.140.28 crores, processing capacity of 6.39 lakh MT and preservation facility of 1.66 lakh MT/annum.

(e) & (f): MoFPI is not implementing any scheme for providing support for training on operating cold chain system. However, as per information made available by the Sector Skill council, namely FICSI (Food Industry Capacity & Skill Initiative), the State/UT-wise and year-wise details of training imparted w.r.t. job roles for Cold Storage Technician (CST), Preservation Technician (PT), and Store Assistant-Food Manufacturing Facility(SA-FMF) is as under:
