Measures to boost traditional systems of medicines
Questions :
Will the Minister of Ayush be pleased to state:
- whether there has been an increase in the number of people opting for traditional systems of medicines like Ayurveda and Homeopathy in the country, owing to the initiative by Government, if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
- whether any steps have been taken by Government to encourage and upskill the practitioners of traditional medicines, if so, a list of such schemes/programs; and
- the current number of higher educational institutions offering courses in traditional medicines in the State of Haryana and details thereof?

- Yes, after implementation of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM) through State/UT Governments, footfall of patients has been The year-wise number of beneficiaries as indicated by the State/UTs is furnished at Annexure-I. Under NAM, financial assistance is being provided to the State/UT Governments for different activities as per the provision of NAM guidelines with respect to received State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs). NAM inter-alia makes provisions for the following activities:-
- Operationalization of Ayush Health & Wellness Centres
- Co-location of Ayush facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs)
- Upgradation of existing standalone Government Ayush Hospitals
- Upgradation of existing Government/Panchayat/Government aided Ayush Dispensaries/Construction of building for existing Ayush Dispensary (Rented/dilapidated accommodation)/Construction of building to establish new Ayush Dispensary
- Setting up of upto 10/30/50 bedded integrated Ayush Hospitals
- Supply of essential drugs to Government Ayush Hospitals, Government Dispensaries and Government/Government aided Teaching Institutional Ayush Hospitals
- Ayush Public Health Programmes
- Behaviour Change Communication (BCC)
- Mobility support at State and District level
- Ayush Gram
- Establishment of new Ayush colleges in the States where availability of Ayush teaching institutions is inadequate in Government Sector
- Infrastructural development of Ayush Under-Graduate Institutions and infrastructural development of Ayush Post-Graduate Institutions/ add on PG/ Pharmacy/Para-Medical Courses
Further, as reported by State/UT Government, number of beneficiary availed Ayush services through Ayush Health & Wellness Centres (AHWCs) has been increased in 2023 in comparison with 2021 as furnished at Annexure-II.
- The Ministry of Ayush is running/implementing a Central Sector Scheme namely AYURGYAN Scheme from Financial Year 2021-22.The Scheme has 03 components viz. (i) Capacity Building & Continuing Medical Education (CME) in Aysuh (ii) Research & Innovation in AYUSH from the FY 2021-22 and (iii) Ayurveda Biology Integrated Health Research is also added under the scheme from this Financial Year 2023-24.The main aim of Capacity building & CME in Ayush component of Ayurgyan Scheme is to encourage Ayush personnel to undergo need-based professional training and bridge the knowledge gaps. Under the CME component, funds are provided to the eligible institutions/organizations for conducting training program for Ayush Personnel.
- The details of educational institutions offering courses in traditional medicines in the State of Haryana at present are furnished at Annexure-III.
