Promoting non-motorized transport in Haryana
QUESTION
(a) the steps taken for promoting non-motorized transport in the State of
Haryana, the details thereof and expenditure incurred during the last three years;
(b) whether Government plans to introduce electric buses in major cities in
Haryana, if so the details thereof;
(c) the details of steps taken by the Government to promote mass rapid transit
system in the State; and
(d) the total expenditure incurred by Government under all its schemes
during the last three years, for the state of Haryana, year-wise?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI KAUSHAL KISHORE)
(a): The initiatives for planning, monitoring, management and implementation of urban transport
system including promotion of non-motorized transport, are taken up by the State Governments/Union
Territories/Urban Local Bodies. No fund was released by the Ministry for promoting non-motorized
transport in the State of Haryana during the last three years.
(b): Yes, Sir. Government of India has launched “PM-eBus Sewa Scheme” on 16th August 2023 with
the aim to augment bus operations by deployment of electric buses on PPP model and development of
associated infrastructure in urban areas with central assistance of ₹ 20,000 crore. 169 cities falling in
the range of 3 lakh to 40 lakh population size as per census 2011, including 7 cities of Haryana
(Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Yamuna Nagar) are eligible to participate
in this Scheme. Under the scheme, 450 e-buses for the said 7 cities have been sanctioned by the
Ministry.
(c): The Government has sanctioned metro project covering a total length of 28.50 Km for the city of
Gurugram in the State of Haryana. The details of other operational metro networks under Delhi Metro
Rail Corporation (DMRC) in Haryana is given in Annexure-I.
(d): The details of total expenditure incurred by the Government (Ministry of Housing & Urban
Affairs) under all its schemes during the last three years, year-wise for the State of Haryana is given
in Annexure-II.
